Encased in hardened shells
To protect the ego
To hide a private hell
Shielded to go on living
Despite pain and sorrow
To continue giving
And survive another tomorrow
Melody beckons to the soul
Cracks form, walls shake
Hearts awaken, tears flow
Uncovering deep inner aches
Healing awaits for the brave
Who no longer try to conform
Escaping self-imposed graves
No longer living someone else’s norm.
